Speckled Trout Fishing In July On The South Side Of Barataria Bay: Now that the water temperature is at the hottest point of the summer I find the speckled trout are starting to feed closer to the bottom. Now the way we do this is with a sliding cork. You can buy a sliding cork that allows you to tag the line at the depth you want to fish at. If you are fishing in eight foot of water then you would want to stop your cork at seven foot. That way your live shrimp is only a foot off the bottom and that is the coolest point of the water column. The water is more saltier, cooler and also has the most oxygen closer to the bottom during the hot summer months. Every year I hear people say the speckled trout leave for July and August and they return in Sept. but that is not true as the speckled trout simply go deeper to get out of the harsh environment. We have been catching some beautiful speckled trout on the south side of Barataria Bay near the barrier islands, however we are not fishing on top of the oyster beds this time of the year. If you want to find the speckled trout for the next eight to ten weeks you have to fish in at least seven to ten foot of water and try to get to the lower column of that depth. The speckled trout are still feeding on live shrimp this time of the year and everyone knows the shrimp will dig down in the mud and sand during the day time hours and that is another reason the speckled trout are hanging around the bottom because that is where the shrimp are.

Bayou Log Cabins Speckled Trout And Red Fish Fishing Lodge: We are located thirty five miles south of New Orleans La. in the middle of a two hundred year old fishing village. Speckled Trout and red fish is the main types of fish we target around here. This morning I picked a group up from the cabins and headed south across Barataria Bay towards the barrier islands. We had a slight wind out of the south and the water was clean when we arrive at our first spot. We were fishing live shrimp on the bottom and we were able to box of a nice box of speckled trout. The group had a great time and built a lot of good memories that will last a life time. Great job guys and I look forward to our next trip.
