Bayou Log Cabins Speckled Trout & Red Fish Fishing Lodge is located thirty five miles south of New Orleans Louisiana in the hart of some of the best speckled trout areas around. We pick our clients up from the log cabins that is located in the middle of a two hundred year old fishing village and with a short ride through the marsh and then across Barataria Bay we find ourselves near the barrier islands between Grand Island and the mouth of the Mississippi River. Now this area is loaded with oyster reefs right on the inside of the barrier islands and that is where a lot of bait feed seems to hang around for protection. As you well know where there is bait feed the food chain will follow. The main bait that the speckled trout feed on during the summer months when the water temperature get’s above 60 degrees is live shrimp and live shrimp is what our captains fish with. We like to put one hundred live shrimp in our live wells per angler, so if we have a four person fishing charter we will have four hundred live shrimp on board. You simply can not fish with artificial bait during the summer months and expect to box up plenty of fish as the speckled trout get used to feeding on live shrimp because the area has so many shrimp. Early morning arrival time at strike zone is very important as we find the trout feed early in the morning and late in the evening. Sometimes there is a exception to the rule and the trout will feed in the middle of the day if you have a mid day tide change, however most of the time you can bank on a early morning and late evening bite. Taking folks on speckled trout and red fish fishing charters is what we enjoy doing because all of our captains get a very good feeling at the end of a fishing charter when we get back to the cabins and everybody is cleaning there catch of the day telling all the stories that happen while on the trip and of course all about the one that got away. Sometimes the stories grow a little bit from what really happen while on the water and what is told back at the camp when telling the rest of the group. All in all the most important thing that I find with all of our customers is that they are building memories with there families or there customers while staying at Bayou Log Cabins Fishing Lodge and at the end of the day that is what our captains focus on.
