Today I had the pleasure of fishing with a group from Houston Texas and it was hot. We left the cabins this morning at safe light and headed south across Barataria Bay towards the oyster reefs on the inside of the barrier islands. We had to do a little island hopping before we found the bite we were looking for. Well I had two older women, two teenage girls and one teenage boy on the boat today and they done a fantastic job catching a box of speckled trout by nine thirty this morning. It was a little tough on me because the two teenage girls would not touch a shrimp, through a line or take a speckled trout off there line. Between baiting there lines, casting and taking trout off of there lines I am fit to be tired. It was a beautiful morning with a light wind out of the southeast at about six miles per hour. All of the speckled trout were caught on live shrimp three feet under a popping cork. The speckled trout were very aggressive this morning in regards to the way they hit the live shrimp. They knew what they wanted and did not hesitate on smacking it when they found it. Everybody done a great job getting the fish in the boat and had a lot of fun during the trip. We had all the fish caught by 9:00 then stopped off at the sand dollar for a shrimp po-boy sandwich before heading back home to the cabins. All in all we had a great trip and the family that was on the boat had a wonderful time and built some good memories catching some nice speckled trout.
