Speckled trout fishing charters in Barataria Bay during the summer months is as good as it gets in southeast Louisiana. That’s right the trout are fast and furious right now. The speckled trout are in full spoon right now and the spring winds are starting to lay down making it easy for us to get to where they are feeding. Live shrimp is the bait of choice during the summer months because that is what they are use to feeding on this time of the year. We have been picking up our customers from the log cabins right on the water in Lake Hermitage and with a thirty minuet ride across Barataria Bay we land on one of the oyster reefs near the barrier islands and from then on it it non stop action catching speckled trout and red fish. Fishing for speckled trout with live shrimp this time of the year can make the difference between boxing up one hundred speckled trout and catching ten to twenty speckled trout. It truly makes a big difference when using the same bait that they are use to feeding on. Boat positioning is very important once you arrive on the oyster reef and it is always important not to have you customers throwing into the wind or looking into the sun. So between the sun coming up in one direction and the wind out of another direction and the tide flowing in another direction it is sometime a challenge to get the boat parked in the right spot so your clients can enjoy the day of fishing. Sometimes we have to settle for two out of three and just make the most out of where we are. As you can see our captains always do everything they can to make sure our customers have the best time on one of our fishing charters as possible. I always say that catching a box of speckled trout and red fish is a great day on the water, however more so than that it is also very important to our captains to make sure our clients feels like they are someone important while on a charter with us.
