The fall speckled trout fishing season seems to be getting better and better as the shrimp are leaving the trout are coming in. That’s strange however it seems to work that way ever year. This is the time of the year that the bait shrimp leave towards the gulf of mexico with the cooler weather and the trout that we been catching all summer long alone the barrier islands on the oyster reefs are transitioning into the marsh for the ninety day fall season. Oct, Nov and Dec is what we call the fall speckled trout fishing season, once it gets real cold sometime in January the trout normally leave and go back to the gulf into deeper water so there is no treat for a freeze. This week we had a family in from Houston Texas and they rented one of our small boats and just fished around in Lake Hermitage right around the log cabins. Well you would have through they charter me on a full blown fishing charter because they had a fantastic time catching a box of speckled trout using live shrimp under a popping cork less then one half of a mile from the log cabins. They didn’t burn two gallons of fuel to get to the strike zone and was catching speckled trout as fast as the line hit the water. I will say it is a early morning bite because at around eight thirty it is like flipping a switch, once they are full from feeding the early morning time frame it is over until the late afternoon bite. Anyway they had a ball watching the kids pull the trout in one after another while taking lots of photos to show there friends and family when they get home. As I always say catching a box of fish is a lot of fun, however the memories you build while fishing will last a life time, not only for you but more importantly for your children.
